Nwuike, a 42-year-old luxury bus driver, was on Tuesday brought before
an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly knocking
down a pedestrian, Miss Gladys Peter.
The accused, who works for the Young Motors, is facing a two-count charge of dangerous driving and manslaughter.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
But
the prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused
committed the offences on June 30 about 7.20 p.m. along Badagry
Expressway by Suru-Alaba Bus Stop.
He said Nwuike, who drove a luxury bus with registration no. LND 922 XN recklessly and hit Gladys.
Olatunde said accused hit the deceased while she was crossing the highway.
The offences contravened Sections 19 and 20 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos State, 2012.
In
her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin-Williams admitted the
accused to a bail of N500, 000 with two responsible sureties in like
sum.
She
directed the court officials to duplicate the case file and send a copy
to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
The case was adjourned until September 20.
