“Students have not been sent home, exams have only been postponed” — UI Students’ Union President

In what was a reaction to the institution’s order that all students should vacate the halls of residence, the President of the Students’ Union, University of Ibadan, Ojo Aderemi, has said that students have not been sent home.


He made this statement in a call with THE PAGE correspondent.

According to Aderemi, contrary to what the vice chancellor announced on the University’s Radio Diamond F.M, students have not been sent home, examinations have only been postponed and  “we are putting in place machineries to see that the earlier decision to send students home is reversed.”
While explaining what led to the shut down, he narrated, “The students were peacefully demonstrating this morning to register their displeasure against the ban on the use of hot plates and the non-issuance of Students’ Identity Card by the school management.

“We were still protesting when we heard that the Vice Chancellor has gone to Diamond FM to announce the closure of the University.”

Speaking further, he declared, “I can assure you that I will call the VC and we will talk and the decision will be reversed.”
